learn about the process

I don't ever want you to feel overwhelmed by the process of getting your photos taken.  I'll walk you through every step of the way, communicating what you need to do next.  This includes everything leading up to your session, our actual photo session, and the delivery of your images.  Click the link below to learn how I do things.

Because we'll have FUN!
Because I'll do my best to get great photos for you!
Because you'll have photos to treasure!

why choose me?

the details

The whole process begins by you contacting me.  After you've had a chance to view my work, contact me.  You can do this on my website, by finding the "Let's Chat" box, which is located on multiple pages.  Or find the email icon at the top and bottom of my website pages.  Lastly, you can also find me on Facebook or Instagram and message me from those . I typically respond within 24 hours.

1. your inquiry

I contact you and we will talk through some initial details.  Once you are ready to book, I'll will email you a photography contract and invoice.  Once the signed contract is returned to me, along with a retainer fee, your session date will be locked in on my calendar.  That time will be yours!  I will accept no other sessions for that timeframe.

2. ready to book

This is where the fun begins.  You get to start dreaming and planning for your session.  The main thing here is thinking about clothing choices.  Clothing can make all the difference in the world between truly lovely images and mediocre ones.  I'm here to help if you need advice or ideas.  You might also be thinking about things like hair, makeup, specific images and groupings you'd like me to photograph, and so on.  We can talk via the phone or email to hone all these fun details.  A little pre-planning and preparation go a long way to capturing stunning images.

3. prepping for your shoot

Your session date arrives!  Plan the day well, so as to arrive on time to your session.  Also think about things like naps for the kids (maybe the adults too, lol), making sure everyone is fed and not "hangry" during the session, giving yourself enough time to get everyone dressed and hair in place.  Planning the day out keeps it from getting too hectic and stressful.  Remember, we want to have FUN!  Once you arrive for your session, leave the rest to me.  My job is to make you feel comfortable, walk you through posing, let you have a good time, and capture beautiful images for you!

4. your session day

After your session, I get busy with editing.  I often send a "Sneak Peek" of just a few images a couple of days after your session to whet your appetite.  That's always fun for everyone.  Then I complete the gallery, usually within two weeks.  Both the Sneak Peek and the Complete Gallery will be sent to you via a link in an email.  The gallery sharing site walks you through how to use it, with some text boxes that pop up the first time you open it.  It's super easy and intuitive.  Your can download, share, and even print images through that gallery sharing site.  It's pretty slick.

WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?

Here is the simple answer to that question.  Pick colors that coordinate with one another, 2 to 4 of them, but don't be too matchy-matchy.  I personally feel like lighter colors make for dreamier photos, especially in the spring and summer months.  Also too many patterns is very distracting to the eye.  So perhaps one person can wear a pattern and the others choose solid colors pulled from that pattern.  Contact me for more details.

WHAT TIME OF DAY SHOULD WE SCHEDULE THE SHOOT?

Based on circumstances, we don't always have a choice. But if we do, my favorite time is about an hour before sunset. The light is dreamier then and lighting is SO important. Another beautiful time for lighting is first thing after sunrise. If you're willing to get up in time for that, so am I.

WHY DON’T YOU RELEASE ALL OF THE PHOTOS YOU TAKE?

Believe me, you don't want ALL the photos. I choose the best ones to edit beautifully for you.  You really don't want to see all the ones with Jimmy's eyes closed or with baby Sophia fussing, or with dad having the most awkward expression, etc.  I take a lot of photos in order to give you a beautifully curated gallery.

DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?

Yes, I absolutely edit my photos.  That is part of what goes into creating the style that you see in my galleries.  And just so you know, I will edit out temporary things like blemishes or booboos, but I will not change the essence of your appearance.  You are beautiful just the way you are.  So don't ask me to plump your lips or fill out your hair.  I love you just the way you are, as Billy Joel says.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY PHOTOS?

I often send a "Sneak Peek" of just a few images a couple of days after your session to whet your appetite. That's always fun for everyone. Then I complete the gallery, usually within two weeks. Both the Sneak Peek and the Complete Gallery will be sent to you via a link in an email. The gallery sharing site walks your through how to use it, with some instruction boxes that pop up the first time you open it. It's super easy and intuitive. You can download, share, and even print images through that gallery sharing site. It's pretty slick.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE?

This information is laid out for you under the Investment section of my website. Different packages include different numbers of images promised.

WHO DO YOU RECOMMEND THAT I PRINT THROUGH?

The lab you choose is, of course, your choice. But remember, you get what you pay for.  Many of the cheaper labs create photos with colors and clarity that are not at all what I sent you.  For nice quality images, at a competitive price, I recommend you print through the lab associated with the gallery sharing site I use to deliver your images.

WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE MY APPOINTMENT?

Please know that when you sign your contract and return it to me along with your retainer fee, I lock in your date on my calendar.  This means that I turn down other requests for this time slot.  So I prefer we not need to reschedule.  However, I understand that sometimes things come up that are truly outside of your control.  If that occurs, call me immediately, and I will try to accommodate a change.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?

If you cancel your appointment, you will need to sign a cancellation agreement and you will forfeit your non-refundable retainer fee.

IS STUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY AVAILABLE?

I do a little bit of studio photography in my makeshift living room studio. This is mainly for my Newborn and Baby photography. However, my preferred style of photography is outdoors, natural light, in the myriad of beautiful settings around us.
